Latest Single, “Sabah Güneşi,” By Çiğdem Aslan Is Released

Istanbul-born singer Çiğdem Aslan changes gears with her newly released single, Sabah Güneşi, which was released on the first of June under Red Music Production Label. Before this newest release, Çiğdem Aslan had almost exclusively worked in Anatolian folk music for her solo career, as evidenced by her albums Mortissa and A Thousand Cranes. However, for Sabah Güneşi, which translates to “Morning Sun,” Çiğdem Aslan changes things up.

“At this very stage of my life, I decided to try making different genres in my music. That’s why my song comprises both familiar and unfamiliar elements to my style… The result has been promising.” – Çiğdem Aslan

In her latest single, Çiğdem Aslan stays true to her roots in Anatolian folk music but adds elements from other genres of music that are very often not associated with this kind of music, namely rock, funk, and jazz. In terms of instrumentation and production value, “Sabah Güneşi” incorporates mixing techniques and instruments more commonly found in modern popular music. Ugur Kucuk and Hasan Gozetlik are featured on the song with baglama and trumpet solos, respectively.

A music video was released along with the song. The video features Çiğdem Aslan, the other instrumentalists on the song, and one dancer all dancing and having a good time in a quasi-urban setting, highlighted with graffiti and various post-production effects to really make the video colorful and the song pop. Çiğdem Aslan and the instrumentalists are featured wearing eccentric and colorful clothing with the one dancer wearing more casual attire. This is not a video or song to be missed. Fans of artists like Roza Eskenazi and Sotiria Bellou and genres like jazz fusion and funk rock are sure to appreciate Çiğdem Aslan’s “Sabah Güneşi.” They may even turn into lifelong fans of this song and Çiğdem Aslan’s other works.
