Taylor Swift 2020 albums: Mysterious co-writer – Joe Alwyn breaks his silence
Even though Taylor mentioned in November 2020 that her boyfriend, actor, and musician Joe Alwyn was the mysterious co-writer behind her 2020 “Folklore” and “Evermore” albums, Joe never addressed the matter publicly before until today.
Using the nickname William Bowery, Joe had the fans in the dark about the process and the experience of writing those songs with the renowned pop star. However, chatting in an intimate interview with Vulture earlier in May 2022, Taylor’s longtime boyfriend opened up and explained that co-writing some of Taylor’s songs wasn’t something he intended to do: “I wasn’t trying to write to Taylor’s personal sound but I had been listening to a lot of the National (Aaron Dessner ended up producing the album)”. “I’d probably had a drink and was just stumbling around the house. We couldn’t decide on a film to watch that night, and she was like, ‘Do you want to try and finish writing that song you were singing earlier?’ And so we got a guitar and did that.”, he continues.
Explaining why he didn’t want to take credit as a co-writer, using his real name, the actor stated that he didn’t want to use his name or an intimate moment with his girlfriend to draw attention and create, in his own words, a “clickbait conversation”. He wanted to let the fans and listeners be immersed in the song and not affect their listening experience with gossip and irrelevant information.
The only thing we can say is to thank you, Joe, for having even the tiniest part in those masterpieces! I’m sure I’m speaking on behalf of all Taylor Swift fans when saying that you really helped in the creation of not only common, typical songs but masterpieces!
