INTERVIEW: LISA MARINI RELEASES NEW SINGLE CAROUSEL

London-raised singer-songwriter and producer Lisa Marini releases her brand new single ‘Carousel’. The track is self-written, self-produced and self-recorded, allowing the organicness of Lisa’s skill to shine through her work.

What is it like to be an independent artist in the current music industry?

“I have creative freedom so I think it’s an amazing time to be an artist. My one-bedroom flat is an art studio and a music studio, that technology wouldn’t have been available 20 years ago- so I have a great time!”

Do you feel like enough is done to promote independent artists?

“Everyone seems to be promoting something these days, so that’s hard for me to answer. It would be nice if there was less noise and more focused promotion so that it was easier for me to find the music and art that I like.”

Do you think it’s getting harder/easier to be unsigned?

“That’s all relative because it depends on the label. For me it is essential that I have ultimate creative freedom, being unsigned means that I have that.”

What’s your general songwriting process?

“Time, space, maybe a change of scenery and a guitar. I talk a lot and think a lot so there is always something to write about.”

Is this something that has evolved with time?

“I am faster and more direct when I create.  But I do so much of the other creative parts of the process that it often comes in waves. I will always have a selection of songs dancing around my head that are at various stages of completion.”
