Scottish Swing: Christopher Caird Dominique’s ‘Jazz in Scots’ Celebrates Ancestral Roots

Christopher Caird Dominique is a name that may not be familiar to most, but his upcoming album, “Jazz in Scots,” is sure to put him on the map in the music industry. This gifted Swedish pianist and composer is set to release his highly anticipated album on September 15th, 2023, and it’s already generating buzz. But what makes this album so special? “Jazz in Scots” is more than just an album; it’s a heartfelt tribute to Christopher’s great grandfather, George Caird, a renowned violinist who played in the BBC Variety Orchestra from 1945 to 1963.

Through this album, Christopher pays homage to his Scottish roots and connects with his family’s musical legacy. The inspiration for “Jazz in Scots” came from historic recordings made in Glasgow in 1945, where George Caird’s mesmerizing violin performances left a lasting impact. Christopher and his ensemble, including Filip Runesson on violin and Johnny Åhman on double bass, have meticulously crafted new arrangements of these timeless songs.

With the addition of guest appearances by harmonica virtuoso Ola Salo and Glaswegian tenor saxophonist Matt Carmichael, “Jazz in Scots” is set to be a unique and captivating listening experience. Adding an extra layer of excitement to the album is the fact that it was recorded in the world-renowned Abbey Road Studios, London. This iconic venue has been the backdrop for countless legendary recordings, and it’s only fitting that “Jazz in Scots” will take its first breath here. The album was then mixed by acclaimed producer Per Sunding at Tambourine Studios in Malmö, Sweden, and mastered by Alex Wharton at Abbey Road Studios.
