Plants, Synths, and Drums: The Unique Inspiration Behind Greg Foat’s Latest Release

A revolutionary new sound is sweeping through the jazz world, inspired by an unlikely source: house plants. London-based musician Greg Foat’s latest single, “Spider Plant Blues,” combines his passion for music and plants to create a unique and captivating experience for listeners.

This two-track jazz single, set for release digitally and on vinyl on May 24th, marks Foat’s first collaboration with digital music management company Ameritz Music. Foat’s fascination with flora began in his childhood, when he fell off his aunt’s piano stool at the tender age of three. He soon became an avid vinyl collector and taught himself to play music from records. Eventually, Foat joined the Isle of Wight County Youth Jazz Orchestra and received lessons from renowned musician Gordon Beck. With years of experience under his belt, Foat’s love for jazz and music has only grown stronger. The title track, “Spider Plant Blues,” is a tribute to the greenery that adorns Foat’s home. He explains that the plants are constantly rearranged, circulating fresh air and energy, which serves as a source of inspiration in his home studio.

This intricate synthesiser-led piece showcases Foat’s skill and talent, while seamlessly blending with the bass and drums of his bandmates, Tom Herbert and Ayo Salawu. The result is a laid-back and refined sound, perfect for casual listening, but with hidden depths waiting to be discovered by avid listeners. The harmonious melody and flawless execution of “Spider Plant Blues” invites listeners to immerse themselves in the energy of the plants and experience their own moments of inspiration. With its release on all platforms on May 24th, this single promises to captivate and enthrall jazz enthusiasts around the world. Don’t miss out on this revolutionary new sound and join in on the celebration of Foat’s unique blend of music and nature.
