Himmelskygge Highlights the Vitality of Nordic Art Music

Himmelskygge offers a broad portrait of contemporary Nordic art music through the lens of Norwegian song. Issued by LAWO Classics, the album is scheduled for digital release in May 2026 and includes works that move across classical, experimental, and jazz-influenced territories.

The performers are mezzo-soprano Hege Høisæter, pianist Jorunn Marie Bratlie, Kari Telstad Sundet on electronics, and Tov a Vot. The jazz ensemble consists of Vetle Nærø, Theis Jakob, and Ola Grindbakken, adding piano and keys, bass, and drums to the album’s sound world.

Kari Telstad Sundet’s The Drift is one of the album’s major focal points. Setting Emily Dickinson, the cycle uses electronics and acoustic performance to create music that is both intimate and exploratory.

The wider programme also includes Olav Anton Thommessen, Carl Gustav Sparre Olsen, Theis Jakob, and Gisle Kverndokk. With production by Vegard Landaas and technical work by Thomas Wolden, the recording adds a distinctive new title to the LAWO Classics catalogue.
